How has it improved or changed your client consultation?

It makes the consultation more well-rounded. There’s a lot going on in a consultation with a new guest. When they go to put the formula in, it may make stylists go back and ask the guest a question they wouldn’t have thought of if they didn’t have the app.

How does it help you service your clients better?

The consistency of product is better and more precise. We can replicate the same color formula down to the 10th of gram.

What are your favorite features?

The features are awesome when you’re building your profile. Mia makes you think about the texture, type and density of the hair. The advanced stylists are already thinking about that, but it really makes everyone consider that, no matter how long you’ve been in the business.

How has it assisted with your application process?

In the Mia app, we were able to customize and match the hair color techniques to the salon terms and technical names our salon uses.

How does Mia make you more effective as an artist?

When you go back to mix up color, a lot of times you just think of what you have in your head. With Mia, you can scroll down the options in hair color techniques—it’s nice to see options you haven’t thought of unless you had the app. It keeps techniques fresh in your mind.

How do you see this tool elevating the industry?

I think it’s a huge area of opportunity. A salon as a business has trouble with profit margins anyway—it’s a widely spread problem in the industry. Not only is it going to help the environment, but it’s going to help salon owners stay above water and stay profitable.
